The trio behind this east coast roastery like to keep things simple, so there’s no blending, grinding or caffeine snobbery here – just straight-up delicious single-origin whole beans.
Founders Kathryn, Jamie and Ian celebrated Sacred Grounds’ third birthday in style at the end of 2018 (in a gin bothy with a rabble of brownie bakers, naturally) and raised a glass to a year in which the roastery’s tribe of loyal followers continued to expand. The small batch set-up now includes speciality cafe customers in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Fife, as well as a couple of award winning restaurants around Angus.
‘It’s important to be able to tell people where their coffee comes from’
The decision to go single origin-only has paid off and their wholesale customers benefit from sharing the stories behind the beans with their own loyal locals. ‘With sustainability proving to be a big issue, it’s important to be able to tell people where their coffee comes from – down to the farm and grower,’ says Kathryn.
While the team sell mostly to trade, 2019 will see the expansion of the coffee subs service for home brewers.
